John McAfee
John McAfee is on a mission to educate veterans on how writing can help deal with the trauma of war and its aftermath, and can be a legitimate way of working through PTSD. His first book, Slow Walk in A Sad Rain was written to help deal with the guilt he felt in coming home alive while others did not. He used dark humor to draw the reader in until they had to become veterans by facing what we faced in war. His second novel, On Rims of Empty Moons, was a coming of age novel where an old veteran, Jose Navarette, who fought for Pancho Villa, lives isolated and alone on a huge ranch until a young man is sent to work with him. The lessons the young man learns from Jose carries him through the horrors of war and gives him the courage to face what needs to be faced when he gets home. The final novel, Ropes of The Sun, has the veteran reintegrated in society but still guided by lessons forged in war.
